Travelocity, Travelguru, priceline.com and Makemytrip discuss outlook for OTAs
The remaining three of India’s big four OTA’s will be watching Travelocity’s acquisition of Travelguru very closely indeed.
The greater industry – both local and international – are wondering if this is the beginning of an acquisition domino effect. Will the other big international players – namely Expedia and priceline.com – look to follow suit and gobble up a Yatra, Makemytrip, or Cleartrip, and therefore consolidate their Indian position?
This is the kind of move that so many have been expecting for a long while. Yet with the tough economic conditions and difficulty proving profitability, it is a move that has still caught some by surprise.
These new industry developments – and the changes they will inevitably prompt – will be discussed at length at this year’s Travel Distribution Summit India (Mumbai, Oct 6-7th). Representatives from India’s big four, plus priceline.com and Travelocity, all feature on this year’s program, where opinion about the future of India’s online industry will be hotly debated www.eyefortravel.com/tdindia
