Virgin Atlantic and Carnival Cruises Discuss their Social Media Strategies

Carnival Cruises and Virgin Atlantic will join the exciting line up of speakers for EyeforTravel’s upcoming Social Media Strategies in Travel conference in Prague.

Allison Wightman, Head of Marketing Systems at Virgin Atlantic will be discussing the strategy behind the airline’s recently launched www.vtravelled.com site.  The site covers more than 800 destinations and engages with the global travel community.  As the site says ‘vtravelled is all about dreaming, sharing and planning travel [..] We're here to help spark your travel dreams, create your ideal trips and share your experience and expertise with others’.

Virgin Atlantic took great care in researching their strategy for project and invited 65 members of the travel industry, leaders of community sites and Virgin customers to a V-Jam brainstorming event last November.  The innovative travel brand then went away armed with ideas to implement for their vtravelled.com site which was then launched a few months later.

Wightman will be speaking about how Virgin Atlantic decided upon the goals they wished to achieve for their social media strategy, the budgets and the resources they needed to attain them and how Virgin watched out for the pitfalls along the way.

Carnival Cruises will be joining the session ‘Social Media Metrics – can the ROI of social media and UGC be measured effectively?’.  The Miami based cruise company was one of the first companies in the world to start using twitter in 2007 and is widely regarded as a world leading early adapter of social media.  From blogging to photo sharing to social networking, Carnival has it all covered but what is perhaps most fascinating is the success with which it does it.

In a rare European appearance, Stephanie Leavitt, Manager, Online Publishing and Social Media Strategist for Carnival will be discussing how the results of their social media campaigns are measured for engagement, satisfaction levels and leads/sales.

More information about both speakers will follow as part of EyeforTravel’s series of social media in travel articles.

The 2 day Social Media Strategies in Travel conference will take place in Prague, 13-14 October as part of EyeforTravel’s annual Sales & Marketing in Travel Summit Europe.  More information about the event can be found here - http://events.eyefortravel.com/sales-and-marketing/conference/more-information-logix.asp  or via the contact details below.
