Yahoo tests Glue Pages In India

Yahoo has chosen India for the beta test of its new search concept that aggregates text, images, and video results on a single results page.

Glue Pages are being described as specialised pages that contain an enhanced visual search result page, for select search queries. The search results that trigger the special "Glue Pages" run across searches in health, sports, entertainment, travel, technology, and finance categories. They combine classic search results on the left hand column with more visual information related to your query in the middle and right section of the page.

The results contain images, videos, articles and more. For example a search on diabetes returns standard search results on the left, in the middle we have WebMD results, followed by HowStuffWorks.com results, then results from Yahoo Groups, Yahoo Answers, Yahoo News, and even Google Blog Search.

Yahoo's Indian team developed the feature and so far there are no plans to bring it to the United States or other areas.

The search terms supported on Glue Pages are currently confined to terms more commonly searched for by Indian users. Besides Yahoo content sources such as Yahoo Health and Yahoo Answers, the company has signed up with third-party content providers, both from India and abroad. A link on a Glue Page allows content providers to apply to have their Web site published on a Yahoo India Search Glue Page.
