GTREX builds direct access travel services system with Cape Clear Enterprise Service Bus

Global Travel Exchange Inc. (GTREX) is using the Cape Clear Enterprise Service Bus (ESB) as the platform for developing and deploying transactional applications for the GTREX Voyager Network.

The Voyager Network is an alternative Global Distribution System (GDS) that enables direct access to the reservation systems of major travel suppliers such as airlines, cruise lines, hotels, car rental companies and providers of other travel amenities. According to an official release, an alternative to fee-laden, proprietary GDS offerings such as Sabre, Galileo, Amadeus and Worldspan, Voyager Network is a standards-based system offering travel agencies, corporations and online travel services a reliable, low-cost option for the delivery of direct access travel services built to OpenTravel Alliance (OTA) standards.

GTREX chief executive officer Christopher Berlandier stated that the company decided against using traditional integration platforms to implement its SOA because of the massive cost and complexity associated with those technologies.

"Using Cape Clear, we were able to download all the code, documentation, and tutorials, and install the software in less than an hour, and build our proof-of-concept in a day, without requiring assistance from the company," said Berlandier.  "With Cape Clear 6.5, we built out our SOA and were delivering new products to our customers in a fraction of the time, effort and cost of other approaches."

"The old guard travel exchanges are supported by massive, costly infrastructures, whereas Global Travel Exchange is built with cutting-edge technologies, like the Cape Clear ESB.  Cape Clear has enabled us to drive cost out of the operation and simplify our entire infrastructure - without sacrificing transactional reliability," added Berlandier.

Annrai O'Toole, chief executive officer, Cape Clear Software said, "While other companies would have you believe that an SOA strategy can only be achieved through high cost and lengthy, complex implementations, Cape Clear's True ESB is proving that there's a simpler, more intelligent approach."
