Hong Kong group picks Wificom wireless server
SOPHIA ANTIPOLIS, France -- Hong Kong-based Systech Telecom has chosen Wificom’s flagship SAB Server as the backend service management platform for the company’s rapidly expanding wireless local area network (WLAN) services in the Asia-Pacific region. Systech Telecom provides high-speed and secure wireless broadband Internet access services to public users in hotels, airports and shopping malls throughout the Asia-Pacific region. Systech said the SAB Server would serve as the software solution for managing all current and future WLAN services.
"Wificom's SAB Server has since responded to all our requirements," said James Lee, managing director of Systech Telecom. "Its architecture ensures high performance, robustness and scalability. This, combined with the great feature set, has proven the SAB Server to be the ideal solution for our WLAN hotspots."
Wificom is a leading global supplier of WLAN service management products, and its SAB Server has been selected by customers and partners including regional telecom operators, IT integrators and wireless Internet service providers in more than 20 countries in Europe and Asia.
SAB Server is a server-side software solution for broadband Internet service providers. It integrates service creation, billing, rating, roaming, customer care, reporting, device independent content delivery and value-added location-based services. The company's hotspot network, which has recently expanded with the installation of wireless broadband networks in seven major shopping malls in Hong Kong, will be transferred to the new centrally managed system based on SAB Server.
"The agreement with Systech Telecom is an important step in our expansion strategy," said Sofia Flood, sales and marketing director of Wificom. "Such a strong client in the Asian market demonstrates again that our SAB Server is the ideal choice for service providers of any size. We look forward to contributing to Systech Telecom’s continued success in the WLAN market."
Wificom is a leading-edge global supplier of WLAN service management products for companies acting in the broadband wireless marketplace. Wificom was founded at the birth of the WLAN expansion in 2000 and is headquartered in Helsinki, Finland with offices in Sophia Antipolis, France. Wificom is a privately held company, backed by Europe’s leading venture capital firm, 3i Group. In July 2002 Micsom, a leading software provider for broadband wireless access and location-based services in Finland, became part of 3i Group.
Last December, WinQ, a Netherlands-based company focusing on carrier-grade wireless end-user services, selected the Wificom SAB Server as broadband backend system for its rapid European expansion hotspot network.
WinQ recently signed up Kenniswijk, which is an initiative of the Directorate-General for Telecommunications and Post (Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs), in order to stimulate the development of ICT services and facilities to create the future consumer market. Kenniswijk is located within the municipalities of Eindhoven and Helmond, comprising some 40,000 households and 84,000 residents. WinQ will build the hotspots for Kenniswijk in the Eindhoven area and also provide a city-centre-wide WLAN offering.
“Coming from the operator world we had very clear requirements for our backend solution,” said George Boersma, managing director of WinQ. “Wificom SAB Server was our clear choice, because its unique feature set can support our aggressive hotspot rollout and also because its open architecture enables us to use 3rd party access controllers such as Nomadix. In addition the SAB Server provides open interfaces towards mobile operators existing systems, which was an important feature to us.”
