Wireless Blackberry printing offered by PrinterOn
WATERLOO, Ontario -- Research In Motion Limited (RIM) and PrinterOn Corporation have announced an alliance to deliver and market PrinterOn's Wireless Internet Printing application for BlackBerry. Called PrinterOn PocketWhere for BlackBerry, the companies said the mobile application combines viewing, faxing and printing capabilities for e-mail and e-mail attachments to offer true mobile printing.
"A major problem faced by mobile professionals is how to print conveniently on the road," said Stephen Hearn, vice president, sales at PrinterOn. "By joining forces, RIM and PrinterOn are enhancing the entire concept of workforce mobility -- providing mobile professionals with the means to conveniently view and output documents, wherever they are."
Now available for corporate and individual customers, PocketWhere gives BlackBerry users the options of wireless printing and faxing. Users can send documents directly from their BlackBerry menu and view Web pages and attachments in 150 file formats from a multitude of networked printers or fax machines. PocketWhere operates throughout North America where wireless network coverage exists.
"Our customers use BlackBerry to increase their mobile productivity and responsiveness through better management of their communications and workflow," said Mark Guibert, vice president for brand management at Research In Motion. "PrinterOn's PocketWhere application adds another layer of utility and productivity by allowing users to view, fax and print e-mail attachments from their BlackBerry Wireless Handhelds.
Two weeks ago, PrinterOn was chosen at IDG's DEMO 2002 as "the company that will make the biggest difference." DEMO is an annual invitation-only event where leading Fortune 500 executives, venture capitalists and prestigious business journalists test-drive new applications from companies like PrinterOn.
The capability to print documents, attachments and Web pages simply and seamlessly is a feature in high demand by handheld, smart phone and notebook users, according to reports by Gartner and IDC. PrinterOn was singled out for the way it meets that demand with simple, useful features for mobile computing devices.
"PrinterOn is the one company that will make the biggest difference in my life," said IDG executive producer James Fallows. "Because it allows frequent travelers to print simply anywhere by removing the hassles associated with incompatible hardware, software and eliminates the need for printer cables."
Along with a career as an advisor to leading technology companies such as Microsoft and IDG, Fallows is a well known journalist and award-winning author. Fallows, named an "intellectual opinion maker" by Business Week, is the national correspondent for The Atlantic Monthly.
At DEMO 2002, PrinterOn also announced a partnership with Palm to enable the new Palm i705 wireless handheld with PrinterOn wireless view, fax and print capability.
Based on the open-standard Internet Printing Protocol (IPP), PrinterOn PocketWhere is available to individuals via PrinterOn's hosted service, and to enterprise customers via PrinterOn's Enterprise Server. PrinterOn is a privately-held company based in Kitchener-Waterloo, Ontario and has been in the document handling business for 20 years.
