Shift seen in global wireless and broadband
WASHINGTON -- The Strategis Group has announced several studies that are planned for release early this year, building on recent findings from the firm that point to dramatic market shifts in global telecommunications markets in 2002 and beyond.
"The long-awaited arrival of next-generation technologies and services is expected to drive growth in markets for consumer and enterprise users of mobile devices and applications in the U.S. and abroad," said Scott Chase, president and CEO of the Strategis Group. "Following the recent turbulence seen in technology markets around the world, our upcoming studies on Global Wireless Markets, European Cellular Markets, U.S. Wireless Market Segmentation, and Residential High-Speed Internet and Interactive TV in the U.S. will help vendors and investors gauge the future of evolving wireless and broadband markets."
Recently, the Strategis Group predicted that one-third of the global population would have a wireless device by 2008. New market catalysts, including the availability and competitive pricing of next-generation devices and services, are expected to drive an increase in demand for high-speed wireless devices and applications.
One significant trend to watch is the continued expansion of wireless local area networks (WLANs) in public "hot spots," including airports and college campuses, as more users grow to depend on ubiquitous access to mobile data. Another market that is expected to grow is the telematics industry, as reduced costs of implementing telematics systems will drive more widespread consumer demand for the service.
"This past year, we launched our benchmark The Strategis Group Tracking Survey: The State of the U.S. Telecommunications Industry," Chase said. "This survey tracks economic conditions of the industry, which became increasingly worrisome for telecommunications executives in 2001. We're seeing more companies beginning to plan for a longer-term recovery than was previously predicted, yet the arrival of next-generation products in both the wireless and broadband sectors is now promising to revive growth in markets around the world. Meanwhile, our consulting and research divisions are offering clients a great advantage in this turbulent market, aggressively seeking new opportunities in this time of dramatic change."
As a telecommunications research and consulting firm since 1964, the Strategis Group claims qualifications to offer projections on the future developments in the dynamic telecommunications economy. Clients include AT&T, Microsoft, Nokia and Vodafone. The Strategis Group, a C7 company, with offices in Washington, London, Singapore, and Sao Paulo, is a leading global telecommunications research and consulting firm.
Founded in 1964, The Strategis Group publishes in-depth industry research reports, provides customized consulting services and supplies continuous information solutions to the broadband, wireless, cable, satellite, competitive telephony and Internet industries.
Chase was named president and chief executive officer of the Strategis Group in September 2000. He previously had been senior vice president and group publisher of the Satellite and Space Group of Phillips Business Information, Inc., Potomac, MD.
Chase, 48, of Silver Spring, MD, joined Phillips Publishing in 1986 as associate editor of Satellite News and editor of DBS News. He held a number of editorial positions before being named publisher of Via Satellite magazine in 1993. Chase has been a director of Phillips Business Information, Inc., since 1995, and was vice president and group publisher of Phillips from 1995 until last April, when he was named senior vice president and group publisher of the Satellite and Space Group.
Chase was a business and financial news journalist with The Washington Post from 1977 to 1981 and a night editor of The Post’s weekly Monday "Washington Business" section. Following that, Chase was a senior specialist in public and investor relations with COMSAT from 1981-1986. He was also a regular feature contributor to Regardie’s magazine from 1980-1982.
